Imaginaries of the East in the Peronist militancy during the last decades of the 20th century

Abstract

This article aims at questioning the influence of the “Arab World” imaginary in the processes of social, cultural, and political identification of Peronist militancy since the 60s, focusing particularly on the comparison with the period opened in 1983 with the return of democracy. This period, in general, has not been specifically addressed by the specialized literature, which has put emphasis on the process of democratic transition, ignoring, in the political analysis categories, such as “national liberation” and “revolution”, still present in the constitution of the political identities of that time. To do so, we will investigate the circulation of ideas and the militancy's formative journeys and exiles of local to the "Orient".
