Anhelos republicanos y virtudes sincréticas. La aceptabilidad ética de Hugo Blair en México

  • Gustavo Santillán

Abstract

The article exposes the moral impact of Hugo Blair during the first five years of the 1830s in Mexico. Likewise, it links the ethical-rhetorical discourse of the Scot with other discursive constellations, particularly classical republicanism. The result is a porous discourse that facilitates the appearance of a syncretic virtue of secular emphasis, enunciated above all by sectors of the middle class. Finally, it proposes overcoming both the inane division between liberals and conservatives in moral matters, as well as a supposed clash between a civil ethic and a religious ethic.
