Raise Yucatan’s Church from the “ashes”: Start of Reconstruction

  • Marisa Pérez Domínguez

Abstract

Personal works undertaken by Martin Tritschler y Córdova are studied on the Historical Archive of the Archbishopric of Yucatan’s documents. Tritschler’s strategies implemented from 1919 to 1922 are the main subject of this paper which begins from the return of the archbishop from his exile in La Habana to the inauguration of the government of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Like their mexican Episcopate’s counterparts, Yucatan’s archbishop intended to regain the Church influence which was seriously damaged by the Revolution. The press, tabernacle foundation, religious schools and the young and ladies’ associations were the principal initiatives of Tritschler.
