The Wave: Legacy of a Paradoxical Nationalism. The Cinema as an Element to Think the History
Abstract
The main objective of this article is to show, through the film Redes, the paradoxical and dissimilar nature of Mexican cultural nationalism. To achieve this purpose, some elements of its history and formation are reviewed, as well as the establishment of the Photography and Cinematography Office within the framework of post-revolutionary Mexico, from which the film in question emerges. Through this, we investigate the vast, contradictory, arbitrary and artificial nature that such a nationalist vein can imply, in order to question and go beyond the most popular stories and imaginaries that usually arise from this period. Likewise, through this writing we want to position cinema as an effective means to revisit different historical aspects in order to provide other readings that may question certain canons and historical accounts.Downloads
