Abstract

The author explains the importance of memories and self-biographies as a useful historical source, but difficult and detailed in its application. He underlines the importance of the personal remembrances (even if they don't fit with historical truth) to enrich memories and self-biographies, but without forgetting the precision of the documental register and the good writing. However, he notes that most of these writers seek to find their place in history as virtuous protagonists, so they convert their works in literary products of fantasy, which moves away them form historical truth.
